Ceramic tiles have decorated floors since the days of Greece, Persia, and Rome. It is made up of raw materials that come directly from the earth and is known for its durability, practicality, and beauty.
Color: One of the main advantages of ceramic tiles is the tremendous color selection. When choosing a tile, add your own creativity to a very functional material by mixing colors, borders, and inserts to make your ceramic flooring unique. Color coordinating with other material such as curtains, carpet, wood, and fixtures should be taken into account.
Size: Choosing the size of the tile is generally of personal taste, taking into account cosmetic, as well as structural functionality. Keep in mind that a mixture of sizes can give a different effect and many ranges now offer different sizing in particular color ranges. Ceramic mosaic tiles are essentially smaller versions of geometric tiles (usually no larger than 2-1/4", and no thicker than ¼") ranging in size from ½" to 2 3/16".Quarry tiles, which range from ¼" to ½" in thickness, are available in square and rectangular shapes in sizes that include 3", 4-1/4", 6" (one of the most common sizes), 9" and 12" squares; 6" x 12", 6" x 9", 4-1/4" x 9", 3" x 6", and 3" x 9" rectangles; and 4" x 8" hexagon shapes.
Shape: Shape also makes a big difference. There are so many shapes which are made according to people’s choice. There are shapes like rectangular or oblong, hexagonal, pentagonal and trapezoidal shapes. The most commonly used tiles are the square and the rectangular tiles.
Types: Glazed tiles come in many types: high gloss, semi-gloss, matte or low gloss, opaque or non-transparent glaze, speckled glaze for contrasting colors or even fitted glaze which covers only some parts of the tile. Glazed tiles are easier to clean and should be considered where continual maintenance is a factor.
